Kathie DeLuca

Hi everyone!  My name is Kathie DeLuca and I am the proud mom of three teenage daughters and love all that my girls bring to my life.  I have recently completed a Master’s Degree in Teaching at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI.  Art is my escape from the crazy world around us, and I try to create art every day!  I am quirky and a bit of a free-spirit. I love to laugh, have a good time, and try to always see the positive in every situation. I choose to surround myself with positive, happy people and don’t have much room in my life for the negative kind. I love my friends and wouldn’t want to be in this world without them.  Teaching all types of paper crafting classes, card making, and mixed media art is something I love!  Through teaching I have met some wonderful ladies!! I have taught at several local stores in RI, MA, and NH. And have also traveled to NC and been a guest teacher at Donna Downey’s Inspired Retreat.  Most recently, my work has been published in Take Ten Winter, 2014 issue. 8x10 Laugh A Lot Canvas
Mixed Media Workshop by Kathie DeLuca

For Kathie's class you will create an 8 x 10 mixed media canvas with some traditional and not so traditional materials. You will begin by creating a one of a kind background as your foundation and then move on to the transformation of fabrics that you will add into your piece for amazing texture. We will use ink sprays, perfect pearls, and stencils along the way. 

You will create hearts by altering them with pattern pieces and Distress Crackle paint. This promises to be a great class to let loose and create your canvas without any rules. You will love getting your hands inky, and watch your masterpiece come together!

Catherine Scanlon

Catherine Scanlon is an artist and illustrator specializing in mixed media and art journaling. She started Catherine Scanlon Designs in 2004 so she could enjoy the freedom of working from home when her son was young. With a background as a watercolor artist, she found out quickly that it was difficult to paint with a baby in the house. She started scrapbooking as a way to preserve memories and realized she had a talent for the art.
Up until late 2012, Catherine designed scrapbooking pages for EK Success Brands and has had her designs on display in the biggest craft stores, including A.C. Moore and Joann Fabrics. She is also the author of two books, Sewing on Paper and Art from the Heart. Today, Catherine focuses on her own designs and teaching others how to create art and beautiful crafts. She has taught over 100 art and craft classes at My Creative Classroom since 2007.
Catherine earned a graphic design degree from Central Maine Technical College and was awarded first place for her watercolor on plastic piece at the Art in the Park in Bath, Maine in 2004. She’s married with one son, snorts when she laughs and has never colored her hair.

  Mixed Media Art Journaling

Journaling Workshop by Catherine Scanlon

Catherine Scanlon will be teaching 2 - 3 hour workshops jam packed with TONS of art journaling pages and fun techniques you can use in all of your mixed media art. These two workshops are designed to fuel your imagination with amazing techniques to to add to your creative line-up, these workshops are a must for any journal or mixed media artist.

You will start with a pre-made journal (found in your class kit) as the base for your pages and go from there to create a gorgeous journal you won't want to put down and will be sure to complete each and every page long after the retreat ends.You will learn creative ways to create patterns and backgrounds as well as create marks to use on unique and custom printed pages as well as work with new techniques for hidden or private journaling, collaged pages, creative ways to write your owns poems and journaling, and more!!  These mixed media art journaling workshops with Catherine are sure to please the beginner and advanced artists. 

On top of that, Catherine will be available throughout the entire retreat if you have any questions or need additional help with any of the techniques discussed during the weekend.
