We are thrilled to bring you a one-of-a kind art retreat in beautiful and historic, Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Mixed Media Madness Retreat Details:

Get ready for a total immersion in art, techniques and classes!  Two fabulous artsy classes with published artist Catherine Scanlon, one assemblage class with Mandy Fariello and a fantastically messy class with Kathie DeLuca!  Each attendee will get their own space in the community room for creative alone time;  a place to work in your art journals, to finish up some projects you might have or just for some company and laughs.  We'll have raffles, goodie bags, trunk show, food, fun and art!  What more could you want from a mixed media weekend?

Pricing:

$350 for retreat weekend.  

Hotel accommodations need to be made separately.  

We have a block of rooms for $127 plus tax, per night

We are offering Payment plan options.

A deposit of $100 will hold your place for registration.  All payments must be finalized by February 22nd. If you have not paid in full by February 22nd, we will have to cancel your reservation.  You will receive no refunds if not fully paid by February 22nd.  

Here are the details of the weekend:

Friday:

• Arrive on Friday night, check into the hotel and grab one of your goodie bags at the registration desk.
• Drop off your crafty things in the community room - everyone gets their own seat to be able to work on your own projects whenever you'd like!
• Head over to the mini class table and work on your first project with the guidance of one of our talented instructors.  
• Greet your fellow crafters in the community room while enjoying some delicious hors'deurves.
• Part one of Mandy's class will start at 8pm.  This class will need overnight drying time, you'll finish it up on Saturday!  
• Enjoy some free time in either the community room, at the indoor pool, enjoy your reserved time at the spa or head to the tavern for some drinks and company.  All this without leaving the hotel!

 Saturday:

• On Saturday, wake up to a warm and hearty breakfast buffet.  
• Catherine starts part one of her first class (you'll need some drying time for her project too!)
• Enjoy about an hour of free creative time, work on your projects, take a swim or enjoy some company!
• A beautiful luncheon will be served.  
• Later in the afternoon we will tackle part 2 of Mandy's class!
• That evening, enjoy some time at the Spa (book your time early!), enjoy dinner at the tavern or out on the town.  There are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.  Relax with friends and or work in the community room.
• We'll have another mini class ready for you.  You'll love the versatility of this one once you've completed it.
• After dinner, Kathie will step in and you should plan to have fun and get messy!  
• We'll also enjoy some evening snacks and coffee.
• Once you have completed Kathie's project, you'll have a few hours of free time to get creative in the community room or visit with your friends and others attending the retreat.

Sunday:

• On Sunday, plan on a hearty and yummy breakfast buffet.  
• One more mini class and then you'll head in for the last class.
• Don't think we are done yet!  Catherine still has another class up her sleeve! 
• You will have some more free time before you need to pack up and head for home. 

This weekend is going to be intense, fun, inspirational and creative!

What can you expect for the weekend:

• 15 plus hours of instructional time, including:
• 1 two-part class.  Each of these parts will give you approximately 3-4 hours of instructor time.
• 3 classes with approximately 3 hours of instructor time.
• 3 mini classes with approximately 20-30 minutes of instructor time each.
• A separate community room where you can create, relax or chat.
• Goodie bag of mixed media goodies valued at about $100.
• Raffles with prizes during each class!
• Opportunity to take advantage of the hotels pool, fitness room, spa, full service restaurant, tavern and business center.  The hotel does have free wifi.
• Friday night Hors d'ourves, Saturday breakfast buffet, luncheon, evening snacks, and Sunday breakfast buffet.

It's going to be madness!

Kathie DeLuca

Hi everyone!  My name is Kathie DeLuca and I am the proud mom of three teenage daughters and love all that my girls bring to my life.  I have recently completed a Master’s Degree in Teaching at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI.  Art is my escape from the crazy world around us, and I try to create art every day!  I am quirky and a bit of a free-spirit. I love to laugh, have a good time, and try to always see the positive in every situation. I choose to surround myself with positive, happy people and don’t have much room in my life for the negative kind. I love my friends and wouldn’t want to be in this world without them.  Teaching all types of paper crafting classes, card making, and mixed media art is something I love!  Through teaching I have met some wonderful ladies!! I have taught at several local stores in RI, MA, and NH. And have also traveled to NC and been a guest teacher at Donna Downey’s Inspired Retreat.  Most recently, my work has been published in Take Ten Winter, 2014 issue. 8x10 Laugh A Lot Canvas
Mixed Media Workshop by Kathie DeLuca

For Kathie's class you will create an 8 x 10 mixed media canvas with some traditional and not so traditional materials. You will begin by creating a one of a kind background as your foundation and then move on to the transformation of fabrics that you will add into your piece for amazing texture. We will use ink sprays, perfect pearls, and stencils along the way. 

You will create hearts by altering them with pattern pieces and Distress Crackle paint. This promises to be a great class to let loose and create your canvas without any rules. You will love getting your hands inky, and watch your masterpiece come together!

Catherine Scanlon

Catherine Scanlon is an artist and illustrator specializing in mixed media and art journaling. She started Catherine Scanlon Designs in 2004 so she could enjoy the freedom of working from home when her son was young. With a background as a watercolor artist, she found out quickly that it was difficult to paint with a baby in the house. She started scrapbooking as a way to preserve memories and realized she had a talent for the art.
Up until late 2012, Catherine designed scrapbooking pages for EK Success Brands and has had her designs on display in the biggest craft stores, including A.C. Moore and Joann Fabrics. She is also the author of two books, Sewing on Paper and Art from the Heart. Today, Catherine focuses on her own designs and teaching others how to create art and beautiful crafts. She has taught over 100 art and craft classes at My Creative Classroom since 2007.
Catherine earned a graphic design degree from Central Maine Technical College and was awarded first place for her watercolor on plastic piece at the Art in the Park in Bath, Maine in 2004. She’s married with one son, snorts when she laughs and has never colored her hair.

  Mixed Media Art Journaling

Journaling Workshop by Catherine Scanlon

Catherine Scanlon will be teaching 2 - 3 hour workshops jam packed with TONS of art journaling pages and fun techniques you can use in all of your mixed media art. These two workshops are designed to fuel your imagination with amazing techniques to to add to your creative line-up, these workshops are a must for any journal or mixed media artist.

You will start with a pre-made journal (found in your class kit) as the base for your pages and go from there to create a gorgeous journal you won't want to put down and will be sure to complete each and every page long after the retreat ends.You will learn creative ways to create patterns and backgrounds as well as create marks to use on unique and custom printed pages as well as work with new techniques for hidden or private journaling, collaged pages, creative ways to write your owns poems and journaling, and more!!  These mixed media art journaling workshops with Catherine are sure to please the beginner and advanced artists. 

On top of that, Catherine will be available throughout the entire retreat if you have any questions or need additional help with any of the techniques discussed during the weekend.

 

Mandy Fariello

Mandy Fariello is a mixed media artist who uses all kinds of everyday detritus in her collages and Mailart. She is well known in the International Mailart circles as FarStarr and was published in the book,  “1000 ideas for Creative Reuse”.  She is always excited by sharing techniques with others and helping them explore their artistic sides. Mandy firmly believes that any day that ends with paint as nail polish was a success.

Assemblage Workshop by Mandy Fariello

Your tuition to Mixed Media Madness includes this fabulous two day class with artist, Mandy Fariello. You will learn many assemblage and painting techniques and learn how to turn ordinary hardbound books into a box to hold your most treasured items.
